The History of Scotty’s Towing Service

FOUNDED BY THOMAS W. SCOTT “SCOTTY” IN BELLE VERNON, PA

From the small body shop and towing service of its beginnings in the Rostraver Township area of Belle Vernon, PA, started by Thomas W. Scott, Sr. (known as Scotty), Scotty’s Towing Service has served the surrounding communities in the Mon-Valley Area for more than 71 years. During that time, our business has strived to provide the highest quality service to our customers, and this principal has enriched and allowed the business to expand and prosper.

THE EXPANSION OF OUR BUSINESS IN THE 70’S

In March of 1973, Thomas W. Scott, Jr., assumed ownership of Scotty’s Towing Service, which he operated as a light and medium duty towing business. With his vast experience in the towing and recovery field, this enabled him to successfully manage and expand the business from the 70’s to the present day. By the end of the 70’s, our fleet expanded to two large heavy-duty recovery wreckers which possessed the technical ability to master any combination of gridlock resulting from an accident.

FURTHER EXPANSION IN THE 80’S

Building upon this solid foundation, in the 80's, we incorporated our business and expanded our services to include five gas stations, a convenience store, motor home rentals, and U-Haul rentals. Our core towing business branched out to include a backhoe, skid-loader, forklifts, trailers, two tractors, and specialized heavy-duty air cushion recovery equipment. This would enhance our commitment to providing quality and expertise to our recovery work.

GROWTH OF OUR TOWING BUSINESS AND AUTO MECHANICAL AND BODY REPAIR SHOP

The 1990's reflected our response to the changing structure of the oil industry by gradually phasing out the gas stations and rental businesses. However, our towing business strengthened with the purchase of 20 acres of real estate and construction of a 4,800 square foot ultra-modern building which still stands today. The building houses an auto mechanical repair shop, an auto body repair shop, and a 24-hour central dispatch center.
